IMPORTANCE OF USING DRY FIREWOOD
All Arthur Atkinson firewood and kindling is certified ‘Ready to Burn’. This means it has been rigorously tested, giving you the consumer peace of mind that the products are consistently low in moisture.
Our kiln dried firewood provides you with a clean burn and maximum heat output. The process of drying the firewood in a kiln is to remove water from the wood to ensure it is under 20% moisture. This allows you to burn the firewood immediately, keeping your stove glass clean and helps to prevent a build up of soot and tar in your chimney or flue.
Arthur Atkinson kiln dried logs provide you with consistent moisture content as opposed to ‘seasoned logs’ which can require further drying and rotation. All our firewood is cut to 25cm which fits in most wood burners and multi fuel stoves.
WHICH FIREWOOD SHOULD I CHOOSE?
It all depends on your appliance.
Traditional Open Fires
Using firewood of any kind on a traditional open fire will of course make for a swifter burn as you are unable to regulate the airflow. Arthur Atkinson advise using the denser kiln dried wood such as Ash & Oak for open fires.
Wood Burners & Multi Fuel Stoves
All our hardwood logs (Oak, Ash & Silver Birch) are suitable for use in wood burning stoves and multi-fuel appliances. The length of burn of each product is dependant on the draw of you’re appliance, the draught setting and even the outside temperature can effect the burn rate. In stoves such as Morso, Aga Wood Burning Stoves, Charnwood ,Stovax and Esse Stoves including Ecodesign are firewood is perfect for a long lasting, clean burn and excellent heat output.
TIPS FOR LIGHTING YOUR FIRE
Place Arthur Atkinson firelighters and kindling on the fire bed along with a small quantity of your chosen fuel. Carefully ignite. Once the fire is established add more fuel and adjust the draft regulator to your chosen burn rate.
STORAGE OF ARTHUR ATKINSON KILN DRIED LOGS
Arthur Atkinson firewood products need to be kept dry and out of the elements. Failure to store the product correctly will impact the products performance. Although our packaging is breathable we do not recommend that kiln dried logs are stored in them. The firewood needs to be stacked into your log store, shed or garage. It’s important that wherever you choose to stack your firewood there is adequate airflow. Do remember when bringing the firewood inside allow it to acclimatise before placing it in your stove or open fire.
